Computer shipments remain high, and the annual demand for crystal oscillators is about 3.1 billion
The domestic microcomputer market has strong production capacity, supporting the development of the upstream crystal resonator industry. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, my country's output of electronic computers in 2018 was 352 million units, and the output of microcomputers was 307 million units. Electronic computers continue to maintain a relatively high shipment volume, and there is a strong demand for frequency components. According to public information and market research, the computer motherboard contains a clock crystal with a frequency of 14.318MHZ and a real-time crystal with a frequency of 32.768KHZ. In addition, the monitor, camera, Bluetooth, wireless WIFI, sound card, hard disk, and keyboard are each connected to a high-frequency Crystal oscillator. According to the calculation that each computer uses 9 quartz crystal resonators and the average price of each crystal is 0.2 yuan, microcomputer manufacturers need about 2.7 billion crystal resonators each year, and all electronic computer manufacturers need about 3.1 billion crystal resonators each year. The market size is 620 million yuan.
Wearable device market: demand for crystal oscillators is expected to be 800 million in 2023, and TWS is booming
China's wearable device market has grown rapidly in recent years. IDC data shows that in 2018, my country's wearable device shipments were 73.21 million units, a year-on-year increase of 28.5%; it is estimated that in 2023, my country's wearable device market shipments will reach 200 million units. We assume that a single device crystal oscillator requires an average of 4 crystal oscillators. It is estimated that in 2023, the demand for crystal oscillators in my country's wearable market will be about 800 million.
In wearable devices, TWS headsets have sprung up. Major mobile phone manufacturers are optimistic about their market prospects and have included TWS headsets as standard products. According to Counterpoint data, global TWS headset shipments increased rapidly from 12.5 million in the fourth quarter of 2018 to 33 million in the third quarter of 2019, a growth rate of 164%. Domestic TWS headsets also started explosive growth in 2019. The sales volume in the first half of the year reached 17.64 million units, approaching the full-year sales volume of 2018; retail sales were 5.79 billion yuan, nearly doubling the same period in 2018. Since TWS earphones mostly use semi-in-ear earplugs, the wearing style is relatively loose, and external noise is easy to enter. Therefore, the use of crystal oscillators for noise reduction has become a necessary solution for TWS headphones. In TWS headsets, manufacturers generally choose 2520 and 2016 SMD crystal oscillators with small size, high precision, and low power consumption.
